Deftkeys

FAQ

Quick answers about Deftkeys. For setup help, see Support.

The basics

What is Deftkeys?

Deftkeys is a keyboard for iPhone, made for people who reply to clients by text all day. It’s a full keyboard with glide typing and suggestions, plus one-tap replies, templates with fill-in fields, text shortcuts, your contact card, clipboard history and tone rewrite, all in the bar above the keys.

Which apps does it work in?

Almost any app where you type: Messages, Mail, messaging and social apps, booking and CRM apps, notes and more. iOS switches to Apple’s keyboard in password and phone-number fields, and in apps that don’t allow third-party keyboards.

Which iPhones does it support?

Any iPhone with iOS 17 or later. Tone rewrite with Formal, Friendly and Concise needs an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence, with iOS 26 or later; Fix grammar works on every iPhone. Deftkeys doesn’t have an iPad layout or an Android version yet.

Which languages does it support?

English. Suggestions, autocorrect and the built-in replies use Australian and British spelling (colour, organise), and common business shorthand such as EOD, COB and KPI is left alone. [Confirm: The app’s word list and tone instructions are en-AU only. Update this answer if US spelling or more languages are added before launch.]

Can I use it for review requests?

Yes. Save your review request as a template, with your review link in the text and a {name} field, and send it in a couple of taps. Deftkeys only inserts the text. It doesn’t send messages for you, connect to review sites or track reviews.

Can I share templates with my team?

There are no team accounts. You can export your library as a .json file in Settings › Privacy and a colleague can import it into their own Deftkeys app.

Privacy and Full Access

Does Deftkeys see what I type?

Like every keyboard, it receives your keystrokes so it can type them, suggest words and autocorrect. It does that in memory on your iPhone and doesn’t log, store or send them. Deftkeys has no servers, no account, no analytics and no network code.

What is Full Access, and do I need it?

Full Access is an iOS setting that lets a keyboard do more. Deftkeys uses it only so the keyboard can read the templates, shortcuts and contact card you save in the app, keep clipboard history on your iPhone, and play haptics. iOS shows the same warning for every keyboard. Typing, the built-in replies and Fix grammar work without it.

Where are my clients’ details stored?

Only on your iPhone: in the templates you save, the last 8 names you typed into {name} fields, and your clipboard history if it’s on. Deftkeys never asks for your Contacts and we never receive any of this. See the Privacy Policy.

Does tone rewrite send my text to the cloud?

No. It uses Apple’s on-device language model on your iPhone. Fix grammar runs inside the app with built-in rules. [Confirm: the released app only uses Apple’s on-device model.]

Does it sync between devices?

Not yet. Your data stays on your iPhone and is included in your normal iPhone backups. You can also move your library with export and import.

How do I delete my data?

In the app, go to Settings › Privacy › Delete All Data, or delete the app. See Delete your data.

Pricing and subscriptions

Is Deftkeys free?

Yes. The full keyboard and all 88 built-in replies are free, with 10 templates and 3 shortcuts of your own and 5 tone rewrites a day. Deftkeys Pro removes the limits. See Pricing.

How do I cancel?

Go to Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions › Deftkeys on your iPhone. You keep Pro until the end of the period you’ve paid for. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Will the keyboard show me ads or upgrade prompts?

No ads, ever. The keyboard never shows prices or purchase buttons. If you reach a free limit, it says so plainly, and upgrades happen only in the Deftkeys app.
